The creators of Roblox - an unusual sandbox production that is a de
facto platform for creating your own games - have announced an event
inspired by the novel Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline (a continuation
of Ready Player One a work that was filmed in 2018 by Steven Spielberg).
According
to Deadline Roblox players will be able to take part in seven
activities to complete some quests and complete the hunt. The author
will attend a Q&A with Roblox founder and CEO Dave Baszucki which
will be screened in-game on December 1 and will contain elements that
will help in the hunt. Those who manage to reach the end are rewarded
with special items from the event that they can use in Roblox.
Warner Bros. previously partnered with Roblox for a similar event to promote the film adaptation of Ready Player One Club Roblox Money
with 13 million people participating. In the two years since Roblox’s
usage has soared so a lot more players may end up joining this time. “I
think it’s fair to say this is going to be even bigger,” Baszucki said
in a statement.
Cline said "Roblox is the closest thing to Oasis
in real life and this contest is the closest thing to treasure hunting
from my book." In 2018 Warner Bros. had hosted a similar event to Roblox
to promote "Ready Player One" and was attended by over 13 million
players.
Ready Player Two comes out on November 24th. The
original was a huge hit and the sequel appears to be pushing the same
idea forward once again sending its protagonist on a treasure hunt
through the Oasis Cline’s fictional metaverse.
