Rocket League has replaced its lock and key lootbox system

Today is a big day for Rocket League on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch, because today Keys and Decryptors have been converted into Credits and Bonus Gifts as Crates are converted into Blueprints. Further, the Item Shop is now live, there's a new feature in the form of Item Archiving, and competitive Season 12 rewards (decals) are being rolled out as a new Season starts and Rocket Pass 5 hits.

Rocket League previously had a loot box system where “crates” with special cosmetic items like decals and wheels could be opened with keys bought by players with real money. Psyonix announced back in August that they would be retiring the Key and Crate system. Today is the day that Crates are out and Credits are in. To enhance your adventure and compliment your gameplay, you can buy Rocket League blueprints from the reputable sellers in a safe secure environment and at cheap rates.

You’ll be able to spend Credits (bought with actual cash) in a few ways. First is the new Item Shop which opens today. In the Item Shop you can just outright buy items you want, but the selection available will rotate daily. “Featured” items will be available for 48 hours before rotating and “Daily” ones every 24. Everyone loves artificial scarcity.

This mismatch between credits and the exact cost of an item is frustrating in and of itself, but the sticker price is also a tough pill to swallow. Infinium Wheels were released back in February 2018, and because Rocket League allows item trading, enough sets were on the market to drive the price pretty far down, with some estimates putting them at below the value of a single key in the old economy.

Psyonix is also giving out three DLC packs for free. All items from the Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run sets will be placed in players’ inventories in “all accounts on all platforms.” All players received the popular Dominus battle car, contained in the first pack, as part of the update.
